IN HIS STEPS with Emmanuel Iren (Pst)

Pastor Emmanuel Iren shares the 7 MILESTONES THAT CHARACTERISED HIS WALK WITH GOD.

1. CHRISTIANITY IS NOT A LIFESTYLE, BUT A LIFE (THAT HAS A LIFESTYLE)

Christianity is not a lifestyle, but a LIFE. It is the eternal life of God in the Spirit of a man. Here’s my explanation- You don’t become a Christian by changing your behaviour, but by receiving eternal life which changes your behaviour. When you receive Jesus, his divine power gives you all things that pertain to life and godliness. You become a partaker of the divine nature…a nature that sin can no longer overwhelm.

All the things needed 4 a successful Christian life has been deposited in us. It is a supernatural life. It is God working in the life of a believer (Phil 2 v 12-13). No one can seek God on his own accord. God does the work.
THE CONSCIOUSNESS OF THE SPIRITUAL LIFE IS THE FIRST MILESTONE
2. LETTING THE LIFE THRIVE
Being led by the Spirit of God and being led by your born again spirit is a decision you must make. It is your responsibility to make sure you are constantly filled with the Spirit of God.
Galatians 5:16 “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
For example, guarding your heart because you eventually do what you see and hear irrespective of what you really want to do. If your focus is healthy, then your spirit would be healthy.
Romans 8:13” For if you keep following to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.”
3. GUTSY GUILT
Sanctification in the life of a believer is a process.
Even when you fail in your walk with God and you can almost imagine the devil laughing and saying ‘I told you this whole Christianity thing is not for you’, you can- in the midst of the feeling of guilt- be confident of God’s preserving and restoring Grace. Micah puts it this way:
“Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise…” Micah 7:8-9
The voice of ‘gutsy guilt’ says: “I’ve sinned, and I feel terrible about it, but I won’t run away from God and His people and remain in sin all in the name of guilt. The fact that you fell into sin is more reason to run to God and not away from Him. I’d go boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help in the time of need (Hebrews 4:16)”.
4. THE POWER OF FELLOWSHIP AND MENTORSHIP
God’s design is that we challenge one another to greatness.
Dear brothers and sisters, if another Christian is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. 2 Share each other’s troubles and problems, and in this way obey the law of Christ. (Gal 6:1-2).
Those of us who are strong and able in the faith need to step in and lend a hand to those who falter, and not just do what is most convenient for us. Strength is for service, not status.
2 Each one of us needs to look after the good of the people around us, asking ourselves, “How can I help?” (Rom 15:1-2)
5. RENEW UR MIND
Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
14 as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; 15 but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”  (1 PT 1:13-16).
We need to guard ourselves because God created us to be led. We must choose what to be influenced by.
6. THE DISCO
THE DISCOVERY OF TRUE PURPOSE
True Purpose in life is different from an assignment
For a Christian, true purpose is
a.) To become like Jesus
b.) Help others become like him and
c.) To worship him
7. FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE
In the Scriptures, the word hope is mostly used to describe the anticipation of the coming of Christ and His Kingdom. Anyone who has hope has an attitude and pattern of behavior.
Faith is a lifestyle. How the hope or anticipation of his coming influences your life is faith.
Love is the greatest
