The Journey to Significance #5

UK - Belfast - Motivational gym messages“S” is for success,”S” is for Sacrifice

Hello Friends! Welcome to a new month.
In a couple of weeks, I will be spelling out clearly the word SIGNIFICANCE. Where each letter will be associated with each weeks post.
This week, we will be looking at Success and Sacrifice as it relates to us on this journey to significance.
What is Success?
Success is defined as being happy with what you’ve got. It’s a point where you are content with every aspect of your life without being dissatisfied or a need to press for anything else. Oxford dictionaries defined success as “to achieve the desired aim or result”.
Success is channelled to achieving a result. It is not an accident, nor is it a matter of chance because everything happens for a reason. Success to me is a sacrifice and sacrifice is essential for significance.
What Is Sacrifice?
Sacrifice is to forfeit something for something else considered to have a greater value.
From Oxford dictionaries, sacrifice is defined as “an act of giving up something valued for the sake of something else regarded as more important or worthy”.
Sacrifice is not merely a selfless act and it goes beyond giving up something for nothing. It actually means to give up one thing for something else we believe is worth more.
In order to be successful in life, you have to pay the price. The price of sacrifice. Very few people actually make a transition from success to significance, but every person of significance is successful. As we’ve established in previous posts significance is living beyond yourself by living a life of influence and impact. Whereas success is in the eye of the beholder, the significance is in the view of others.
Remember you cannot get something you want, without giving up something in return this is the law of sacrifice and Failing to understand this leads to a life of regrets. When you believe you can have whatever you want, without giving up anything in return, you can never fully embrace and enjoy your choices.
If you are unhappy with your choice, the reason is you chose something that you do not really believe to have a higher value than that which you left behind.
Your value shows what a thing is worth to you and how you can make sacrifices for it. If you make sacrifices for people, it goes a long way to show how you value them. If you make sacrifices for you achieving success, it shows how much you value it.
One step towards failure is being unwilling to make sacrifices.
In the end, one of the most important questions we should ask ourselves when evaluating our dreams, desires, and goals, may not be, “What am I willing to do to attain them?” but “What am I willing to give up?”
Every person who has achieved success and significance in life, made sacrifices to do so. It’s my desire for you to live a successful and significant life. I, therefore, challenge you today to pay the price of sacrifice.
