“When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don’t adjust the goals, adjust the action steps” – Confucius

Hello friends, I welcome you to another session of IGNITE SERIES. I am sure the second half of the year has been full of opportunities and advancement. There is always a way to make our lives better daily. I want to share with you a formula I discovered and executed, which has yielded maximum benefit. Today’s topic is “Top to Bottom goal setting strategy.”

I want you to know that winning comes with the practicality and achievement of set goals. Top to bottom goal setting mechanism basically involves three stages namely: The sectors, the aim & objectives and the strategies. I will explain each of them:

  1. The Sectors

This serves as the overhead “Top” for the goal setting mechanism. It helps to focus on what to do and what not to do. Sectors for goal setting includes: Family, Organization, Finance, Spiritual Empowerment, Health, Relationship, Ministry, Personal Development e.t.c. After individual analyses, his/her sectors for growth then he moves to the next stage.

  1. The aim and Objectives:

This is the second stage for goal setting and it involves breaking down of each sector into what you want to achieve. For example let’s consider the finance sector. The objectives under the finance sector can be as follows; at year 2016, you should have up to 3 streams of income, you should save 40% of your income and so on. Let’s also consider the Personal development sector, the objectives can be you reading at least 2 books in a month, you listening to inspiring audio and videos at least two times a week, you attending conferences and seminars once a month e.t.c.

  1. The Strategies:

This is the last stage but the most important because it’s the power house (bottom) of the goal setting mechanism. It involves full execution plans. After all aims and objectives have been finalized, you write how you want to achieve each of the objectives. Let’s consider the finance sector (You having three streams of income). One strategy you can apply here is this: Imagine you are a sales rep in a company (1 stream), you learn how to bake cake (2nd stream), and you serve as a consultant/social entrepreneur (3rd stream).

Actualizing your set goals involves one indispensable quality called Self-Discipline. Self-discipline or self-mastery is the greatest form of discipline ever because it is a critical internal locus of control. It is doing things the way you have subjected yourself (personally) to do things. It’s the difference between knowing what you WANT and knowing what you’re WILLING to do to get it. And if you make self-discipline a part of your plan for 2016, you’ll end this year feeling like an unstoppable force. I GUARANTEE it.

Self-Mastery is the ability to make the most out of your physical, mental, and spiritual health. To be the best you can be at anything and everything. You become more competent and effective in everything you do. You are respected and esteemed by everyone around you. You experience a tremendous feeling of personal power and competence, and you become one of the most valued people in your academics, place of service, ministry and organization.

I believe you have the potential to do and accomplish far more than you believe you are capable of doing and accomplishing. I believe that because history is filled with stories of men and women who have done just that. If you study the lives of great people, you usually discover they came from average families, living average lives, doing very average things. Then these people have some kind of experience or encounter a turning point that puts them in position to do more than they could ever conceive. When are you ready to say “enough is enough” and break free from the idea that you can only do so much?

I hope that time is now.

Imbibe self-mastery. Keep Soaring I see you getting better.

See you next week
