Lady-Confused-.jpgToday’s post was born out of an argument in my room last night. Our system and media have painted the picture that if you don’t have minimum of 7 digits in your account, a fresh ride, a luxurious house on the island (for those in Lagos, Nigeria), a pretty girl you call your own or guy in whatever category you find yourself, a good paying job or business, a first class or 4 point result… you are not a success.

If you lack some or all of these, you might never get a girl to say “YES” to your marriage proposal, because no lady wants to join a man in a struggle to make it, “all things must be ready”. Or you won’t have a voice amidst your peers. One of the guys in the argument even said and I quote “I will not come for any alumni reunion if I don’t have a ride”.man_question_mark

What is the place of those that have pledged their life and resources to see mankind improve either through philanthropy or by being a missionary or volunteer doctor in a remote neighbourhood in a very poor corner in Asia? Will you say that I am not successful if my passion is painting, and I am actively involved in the only thing in the whole wide world that makes sense to me, regardless of whether I make money or not, as long as I am happy?

Some say, “as long as I am convenient, I have my three square meal, have my basic needs and able to fend for my family”, I am successful.

How will YOU define success then?

Your opinion will probably make all the difference. Don’t roll over without leaving a comment. As for mine, it will be coming later 😉
