Familiarity (part 1)

Rember the proverb; Familiarity breeds contempt, contempt in the context as something considered to be inferior, or undeserving of respect. It is funny how we get so used to something that it holds no meaning to us anymore. Everything, living or not living loses their value with more familiarity. See the following proverbs

  • See it often, it looks smaller; smell it often, it loses its scent – Burmese proverb
  • Two may talk together under the same roof for many years, yet never really meet, and two others at first speech are old friends. Mary Catherwood (1847 – 1902)

In the series of familiarity, I want to start with this common phrase “God Bless you” or “Bless you

I am sure you can’t count the number of times you have heard that phrase “God bless you”, “Bless you” or “you are blessed”. You probably just mumbled a ready-made response “Amen or Thank you” by reflex without any registration in your mind.

You might have probably seen that phrase as a mere greeting or a nice reply to someone that sneezed etc, instead of a prophetic declaration and prayer.
The word “blessing” means “empowered or equipped to succeed or accomplish a task”.

Do you think it is casual that God blessed all of His creation (Gen 1:22, 28). The first thing man ever heard after his creation was “the Blessing”. That’s no coincidence.

Your life will be better and improve greatly if you start taking every “Bless you” spoken to you as a prayer and not a greeting, regardless of who it is coming from.

Don’t get too familiar to the phrase “God bless you” that you lose its relevance.
May I say God bless you. Drop an “Amen” as a comment, (you won’t be required to fill anything, just type and submit).

Have a blessed day 😉
