Hello Friends! Welcome to the last week of 2015.
This year, we have journeyed through the realities of life on the Journey to significance. We couldn’t have done it all by ourselves. We had the right people, the right things, all set up in the right place for us.
If you can recall from the first post, there was an exercise to write down 10 goals on a sheet of paper and put it away till the end of 12 months, if you have access to it, bring it out and see all that you’ve been able to achieve. It is something to be thankful for.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you”

I know there are plans you had that did not even come to be, but check again, is your life not better than the plans you had? I had a lot of plans, some worked, some didn’t, and some I knew nothing about came to be and the reason is because, God has the matchless plan. You are not where you are by your plans. Friends, the best your plan can take you on the journey to significance is nowhere. God is the reason for our significance and there is no duty more urgent than that of returning thanks to him.
Gratitude is defined by your attitude towards both the outside world and yourself. The most significant attitude you can portray is an attitude of gratitude.
Robert Emmons, one of the world’s leading scientific expert on gratitude gave reasons why Gratitude Is Good.
“First,” he writes, “it’s an affirmation of goodness. We affirm that there are good things in the world, gifts and benefits we’ve received.
And secondly, he explains, “we recognize that the sources of this goodness are outside of ourselves.
Being Grateful is not a subject of negotiation. It is acknowledging God as behind every good happenings in your life. You are where you are because of God’s faithfulness.
The reason why everything is still working is because God is at work in your life and if you have a doubt, check your heart if it’s still beating.
Rewire your brain, be aware of the positive things in your life and appreciate God for it.
Gratitude is good attitude, it encourages us not only to appreciate gifts but to repay them or pay them forward, Post 30 (Read it here)
Gratitude turns what you have into enough and happiness is born out of gratitude.
For who makes you different from anyone else, what did you have that you did not receive? In simple terms, Thank God for everything.
I am sincerely grateful to God for his continuous guidance in seeing us through this journey and I’m grateful that you are reading this today.

Look back, the past days of your life, what are you grateful for?

Happy New Year in Advance.

God Bless you.

Mind your business: Live on Purpose – The Journey to Significance

Businesswoman in Home Office --- Image by © moodboard/Corbis

Businesswoman in Home Office — Image by © moodboard/Corbis

It’s time to mind your own business. Do you find yourself doing more activities outside of yourself than for yourself?  Have you found yourself working so hard that you don’t even have time to spare for yourself?  Are you spending all of your time working for someone and less time developing your gifts and talent or pursuing your passion? If your answers are yes, then it’s time to live on purpose by minding your business.
The uncertainties of life makes many to put off their passion for pension but nowadays, the economic situation has set a platform for people to mind their own business. Research shows that there is always an explosion of business startups globally after economic depressions. This makes people to focus more on their gifts, talents, abilities and knowledge when there are no jobs to go to.  Ride on the waves of change, you do not need to wait to lose your job before you follow purpose. You have everything you need to fulfil your dreams.
Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody” 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12
The great book says it all. To be successful in life, you have to concentrate on your own affairs and not interfering into other people’s own. Even if you work for a company or someone, make sure you share in their vision ensuring that your interests and business aligns with their vision.
Oftentimes, people tend to relegate the purpose for their life when they secure a job. You can work diligently and whole heartedly for someone and still mind your own business. In life, not all of us are going to be visionaries; some of us are called to be vision-carriers.  In other words, you implicitly fulfill your purpose helping someone else fulfill theirs, but the sooner you acknowledge this and keep at it, the better. This will save you a whole lot of roaming around.
Living on Purpose is essential in minding your business. Why exactly do you exist?

Purpose is the source for fulfillment. Until purpose is known, existence has no meaning.

I noticed that most at times most people spend so much living a frustrating and unfulfilled life, jumping around from place to place because they fail to realize that the purpose for which they exist lies in God’s hands and they can only discover it by consistently asking him to reveal it to them.
The fact that you do a lot of stuff does not necessarily imply that you are fulfilling purpose. It will shock you the day find out.

In minding your Business and living on purpose
  1. Ask God for Direction – Jeremiah 29; 11 says for I know the plans I have for you declares the lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Wisdom demands, we ask our creator to lead us through life in minding our business.
  2. Start now– whatever you want to do, now is the best time for you to do it. Take little steps and keep moving on.
  3. Use what you have to get what you want– what you have is more than enough. Use what you have, not what you don’t have, or what is in someone else’s hand. God always gives resources that are proportionate to your assignment. The greater your purpose in life, the more the resources assigned.
  4. Use your Mind– think positively, discipline your thoughts toward creating our own experience, and allow others the same opportunity. It could be discouraging to consider your present situation or position in life in the light of where you are supposed to be. The difference between where you are right now and your destination in life is all in the mind.
  5. Stay Focused– The only person you are competing with is yourself. Decide today to run your own lane regardless of what is happening. Don’t give up, keep working diligently.
  6. Believe in yourself– Believe in your dreams, position yourself to be the best in whatsoever you do in life. Don’t be threatened by the gifts or talents of people who are already in the game or those who have achieved success in your area of interest. Choose to celebrate people’s moments; using it as a motivation in refining, refocusing, and redeploying your gifts.

When you learn how to mind your own business while keeping a job, soon your business would outgrow your job and your true greatness would emerge.
The story of the biblical character, Jacob demonstrates how minding one’s business could lead to greatness.  Jacob was contracted by his uncle Laban to tend his sheep, but because Jacob focused on minding his own business while working diligently and faithfully, God gave him the opportunity to become an entrepreneur running his own show.  As you commence minding your own business alongside your job, be diligent, hardworking and ethical in all your activities.
Learn to direct your energy and time on your strengths and abilities even as you decide to mind your own business.  You were created to mind your own business.

Bear in mind, until you are excited going to work on Mondays and happy about whatsoever you are doing, wherever you are, you are not minding your own business!

The best business is to mind your own.

God Bless you.

Taking Ownership Of Your Actions – The Journey to Significance

Our differing  backgrounds and varying  circumstances may influence who we are but we are responsible for who we become.

Our productivity is as a result of our responsibilities. Taking ownership is simply being responsible. People shy away from taking responsibilities  and this is because they don’t want to be accountable for anything even for their own actions.
Are you working on a project, waiting on someone else to take initiative to get things moving? Or do you have so many plans waiting for someone to help you take action?
One major problem we have is waiting for someone else to act, assume, take initative or take charge. In reality, that doesn’t happen. It’s very hard to find somebody more inspired or gingered than you are.
So if you think someone is coming or help is coming from somewhere, you need to wake up. As much as you need help, one major help you can have is to help yourself first. Take ownership, take responsibility for your actions. Taking ownership of your actions (taking responsibility) is one of the first step to developing a healthy sense of self.
This is a liberating concept. Help is not coming. The responsibility is yours, and it starts with developing a belief or habit of mind that you, as an individual, are accountable for the quality and timeliness of an outcome, even when you’re working with others. It doesn’t always mean you have authority over a project. Nor does it mean that you shouldn’t involve others. But it does mean you own the personal obligation and commitment to take action and deliver results.
It is futile to expect others to do what you can do for yourself. Take ownership of your life! Regain your self-respect!
Even the prayer that makes God fully responsible is an irresponsible prayer. Some people will be like “I Need God’s help” , yes you do, but God does not help irresponsible people neither does he help people waiting for a miracle to happen without doing anything. Some funny people will go further by saying “God will do it”.  From Scriptures, God has done all that He wants to do in your life and He is not known for procrastination. On the cross when He said “It is finished”, He truly meant it. It’s time for us to have a perception change, many people are just ignorant of the truth.
What are you really afraid of that makes you not to take initiative?
We are in a society where so many young people don’t take initiatives and that is why the statistics of unemployable graduates are high. From their tests, exams, projects, they never took initiative, they can’t read, they can’t sit down to do something. They jump from place to place, doing nothing. How on earth to you want to make a difference?
Friends, take ownership of your actions today.  Stop looking for who to blame. When you do something right or wrong, take responsibility for it. A leader may be responsible for a situation even if it’s not his fault. The blame doesn’t matter.
In the words of Abraham Lincoln, “Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.” All of us can think of many times when the leaders we admired declined to wait for help and instead pioneered solutions. It’s only when we, as individuals, take full responsibility for a problem that we focus our full attention on it and feel the pressure to drive results.
By owning a problem and taking action, we can help others
In a world full of problems which gets complex day by day, only those who live as if help is not coming are the ones who come up with innovative solutions
Living with responsibility makes us stronger and more action-oriented individuals. Focusing on responsibility and taking ownership of your actions offers a sense of peace.
It’s up to you to make change and take responsibility for outcomes in your personal and professional life.
What are you waiting for?

Have a great week.

God Bless you.

INSPIRATION,

Be the Game Changer – The Journey to Significance

card-wallpaper-1920x1080 Hello Friends! Happy New Month.
Life literally is about playing games. Every day we are thrown with puzzles we need to find answers to. Truly, not all games are interesting, sometimes you need to go the extra mile to change these games. Be the game changer because the world has enough people just living by the norm.

Change the game, don’t let the Game Change you” – Macklemore

A game changer changes the way that something is done, taught or made. From post 34 (Challenge the Normal), we see that Game changers challenge the Normal.

The people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones who do.

Each and every one of us has what it takes to change the world. If you have a passion, a vision, a dream, you are no different from Bill gates, mother Theresa, Matma Gandhi or anyone who has ever changed the game and acquired success. You may not have a vision to change the world, neither did they at the beginning. They simply had a vision to change their little corner of the world. By causing a change in your little corner it keeps spreading until it affects the whole world.
The game is different for each person. What piece of the world constitutes a challenge to you that you’ like to change?
Perhaps you want to be the first in your family to go to school, or you want to lose weight, or you want to light up or provide water for a community, or you want to start up a school for the less privilege or start a business. It could be a bad habit you want to change or you want to improve the relationships in your life. Do you have an initiative that will make a positive difference in your community? Maybe you just want to live life on your own terms. The game is whatever you want it to be and you are the one who can change it. In fact you may be the only one who can change it and that is why the world needs you.
There’s something about conscientious leadership. Conscientiously tell yourself that you need to take initiatives to do something. Dreaming without action is equal to sleeping. As individuals, we need to take the lead in making a change.
Start from where you are. Looking at the multiplier effect, the smallest act, can start a chain reaction that eventually impacts the world. The game change is a process. It may not just happen at once, but over time it begins to show.
Uncommon success is not reserved for the rich or famous, it can be achieved by each of us,

Discover your greatness and live a life of design by working in the center of your passion.

Change usually begins with a shift in perspective in one individual, which then affects everyone in connection to it.

Keep Calm and Change the game ?.

Have a great week.

God Bless you.

Keep Moving! – The Journey to Significance

Man fatbiking on a remote beach near Yakutat, Alaska.

Success Seems to be connected with Action. Successful people keep moving, they make mistakes, but they don’t quitConrad Hilton.

One of the major keys to achieving success on the journey to significance is to keep moving forward. We read a lot, plan a lot and we find out we remain at the same place because we don’t go the extra mile to take Action.

The importance of action is pertinent to every aspect of life, either in Business, Ministry, and Education etc. Great people also face challenges on the way. A successful man is someone who, regardless of the challenge, keeps moving.

Successful people know that success is not always a linear upward progression and understand that obstacles arise. Those who are ultimately successful do not become paralyzed by challenges but instead find a way around them. They don’t sit still. They keep moving.

Keep Moving, Don’t get overwhelmed with your present state.

To keep moving forward
  1. Set goals
  2. Take risks
  3. Don’t fear Failure and
  4. Don’t Settle for less

In post 20, which was on persistence (Click HERE to read) tells us that persistence makes us react positively to oppositions we face rather than giving up and it helps us to keep moving.

Anne Graham Lotz, looking from the Bible, made an illustration he said “Abraham wasn’t perfect. He failed, made mistakes. But, he would go back, get right with God, and then just keep moving forward. He didn’t quit when things got hard. He just kept on going. And everywhere he went, God was there. God was with him”

In moving, something very important is getting it right with God. There’s no point moving when you are taking steps in the wrong direction. Always go back to your creator to seek for Direction. Remember, Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight”.

Successful people Keep Moving.

Have a great week.

God Bless you.

Challenge the Normal – The Journey to Significance

Boy dressed up as flying bird --- Image by © Leander Baerenz

Boy dressed up as flying bird — Image by © Leander Baerenz

“If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.” Maya Angelo
Hello Friends! Welcome to a new week. In Today’s post, we’ll be charged on challenging the normal.

What is Normal?

I’m sure you’ve been wondering what this “Normal” means?

Normal is conforming to a standard which is usual, typical, expected and predictable.

Normality tends to be seen as good and desirable by society, while abnormality may be judged as bad or undesirable. Abnormality in itself is good when it tends towards the positive. Therefore, someone being called “normal” or “abnormal” can have vast social ramifications.
Although it is difficult to define normality, the field of psychology has sought to develop a standard set of guidelines to distinguish between normality and abnormality. Normality is a paved road, comfortable and easy to walk on, but no flowers can grow on it.
In achieving significance, the normal has to be challenged. People who are opened to new ideas are more effective than leaders who close off new information or approaches. In most businesses, the status quo i.e “The Normal” is to keep individuals who produce financially even when they violate corporate values. In some countries, the normal is to hold to high esteem corrupt practices and unethical behaviors. People, who challenge that and try to put a stop to it, gain the respect of others. And this is true leadership.
“We have always done it this way” is the mantra of the Normal people who are supposed to be leaders. Status quo leadership is more driven by the need to keep an intact ego than for the good of the organization. If you are not driving change you are not leading but managing. There is nothing wrong with managing per se. but when you challenge the status quo, you are putting all the necessary skills together to be able to see and monitor trends that are developing inside and outside the organization and forecasting their impact. This involves some degree of imaginative thinking and intuition.

“The manager accepts the status quo; the leader challenges it” –Warren Bennis

“The manager accepts the normal, the leader challenges it.”- Darakunle

To move from mediocrity to greatness and achieve significance, we must venture out, we must take a strong stand, and we must create something meaningful and different.
Nothing great is ever achieved by doing things the way they have always been done.
When we challenge the normal, we test our skills and we challenge ourselves.
We are not here to stay content and live within our comfort zones; we are here to do better. The gift of life is to make a difference, and the call of significance is for us to stretch towards excellence.
We have an obligation to challenge the Normal.
After challenging the Normal, ensure you learn from it, ensure you can point at what you did differently, what went wrong, what went right and what you could have done better.
Don’t challenge for challenge’s sake; learn from the experience.
Times are changing; tomorrow’s environment will be different and rich with possibilities for those who are prepared to make a difference.

Don’t be afraid to fail, Challenge the Normal.

Normal is Boring.

Have a great week.

God Bless you.

ITS YOUR TIME : The Journey to Significance

Stopwatch and Certificates
Hello Friends, Welcome to a new week. This week I’ll sharing a piece about time with you.
In the words of Mother Theresa,

Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.

It’s your time now,
To realise that,
The only person you compete with,
Is yourself.

The hands of the clock ticks,
Little by little moving forward,
Without the thought to move backwards,
Yet, non living but life giving

You are growing too old!
What causes your delay?
The world waits eagerly,
To see the exploits you behold

Now you know this,
Decide to move forward.
Just like the clock,
To live life fulfilled.

God Bless you

Have a Great week

Write it down: The Journey to Significance

Young Woman Writing in Journal --- Image by © Nancy Ney

Young Woman Writing in Journal — Image by © Nancy Ney

I’ve got to discover that there is a strong power in a pen put to use. Having dreams is one thing; actually accomplishing them is quite another. The first step in bridging the gap between a dream and reality is to write down your goals.
The truth is that you merely have a wish if you do not write your goals down. If you have a goal, write it down. If you do not write it down, you do not have a goal – you have a wish.

The bible in Habakkuk 2:2 says “Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

When was the last time you actually wrote an idea down with your actual hand? Today, using a pencil or pen is becoming very rare.
Writing is “speaking to another consciousnessthe reader’ or another part of the self. Some of us think that writing is only for writers. But writing is for all of us.

Here is why you should consider writing your next thoughts down instead of typing them out:
  1. When you write, you filter your thoughts: You think deeply and connect your thoughts when you pull out a paper to write down an idea or a strategy. It’s not limited to words, either: Doing a quick sketch or diagram can sometimes be the key to focusing your thoughts and expressing hard-to-articulate ideas.
  2. Writing Articulates the Abstract: While ideas are broad and encompassing, words are limiting and linear. Use this to your advantage: Find the right language to express your next product, venture or thoughts. Writing out your thoughts takes them out of your head and forces you to capture them in a cohesive manner without potential distractions or aids like PowerPoint, spellcheck. Your scribbles can be both raw in concept and structured in words which is a powerful combination.
  3. Writing helps you remember what you were thinking: Whenever it comes to a big idea or some set of goals I need to achieve, until I put it on paper I notice I don’t act straight, I observe that not writing down your goals, strategy or plans limits your productivity.

When is the last time you tried writing down your thoughts, rather than typing things out, to get through a gridlock or to work out a strategy?
Whatever is it in you, it has to come out.

Either write something worth doing or do something worth writing, either ways writing is involved.

Have a great week.

God Bless you.

INSPIRATION,

The Role of Ethics: The Journey to Significance

role of ethicsHello Friends! Welcome to a new week.

A man without ethics is a wild beast loosed upon this world”. Albert Camus

The concept of ethics cannot be overemphasized. Unethical behaviors and corruption are part of the moral degeneration that is sweeping across the entire world. Corruption remains perhaps the biggest threat to the developmental process of anybody.
In our daily transactions, we feel an obligation to consider not only our personal well-being, but also that of other persons. Ethics is, therefore, a code of behavior that a society considers moral and appropriate for guiding our relationship with one another. The issues at stake here include honesty and integrity, as well as, fair, open and straightforward dealing. It involves conforming to the golden rule of doing unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Ethics is knowing the difference between what you have a right to do and what is right to do and significance is measured by the choices we make on the journey of life. You must take them seriously enough to override any human rationalization, weakness, ego, or personal faults. When all else fails, you will always look back to these core values to guide you. Unfortunately, life is not that easy and there’s always disagreement about what values should reign supreme.
Ethics concern an individual’s moral judgments about right and wrong. Decisions taken within an organization may be made by individuals or groups, but whoever makes them will be influenced by the culture of that organization. The decision to behave ethically is a moral one; employees must decide what they think is the right course of action.
Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you were tempted to compromise your integrity and honesty for success?

You need to always choose the right path, it’s always good to choose the ethical pathway.

BE ETHICAL!

Have a great week.
God Bless you.
